Lumidize® Performance

Lumidize is an aluminum-based pretreatment for metal surfaces that will ultimately be painted or powder coated. Lumidize can replace conventional pretreatment methods like chromates and phosphates and also eliminate wasteful, time-intensive surface preparation methods such as grit blasting.

Lumidize forms a robust barrier layer on the metal substrate surface that prevents corrosion and improves coating adhesion. The electrochemical deposition process yields thin aluminum oxide films even on sharp edges and hard-to-access part areas, thus improving edge coverage and minimizing corrosion in common problem areas.

In addition, Lumidize may eliminate the need for primers in certain applications, making it an ideal pretreatment option for direct-to-metal (DTM) coating systems.

The images below show a panel prepared with a conventional pretreatment followed by epoxy primer and polyurethane topcoat compared to a panel treated with Lumidize followed by the same polyurethane topcoat. The Lumidize panel performed well even after 1500 hours in ASTM B117 salt spray conditions.
